Chorus Membership

The NTP is a community theatre group, with membership in the chorus open to everyone, 16 years of age or older, with an interest in musical theatre. Like a lot of amateur groups, the need for male participation is great, (especially in the tenor voice range), although balance with the alto and soprano sections is mandatory.

Currently there is no audition required for chorus members, but each must be able to memorize and perform music and simple choreography, and are expected to attend all rehearsals - one evening a week beginning in September, with additional full-day Saturday rehearsals beginning in January, plus evening rehearsals just prior to the show in February.

We rely to a great extent on our cast to volunteer in areas such as set construction and marketing. No experience is necessary, but participation is greatly appreciated. Weekly practices take place at the Edithvale Community Centre, (Finch avenue and Edithvale, west of Yonge Street).

Auditions for Lead Roles
Auditions are held for lead roles only, and take place in Toronto in late September and early October. Phone or email us for an appointment and for more information.

Behind-the-Scenes
As well as onstage, volunteers are needed for set construction, makeup, costume production, marketing, as well as other exciting challenges. Email us for more information.

ABOUT NORTH TORONTO PLAYERS

Since 1966, the theatrical and musical productions of the North Toronto Players have appealed to audiences of all ages. By focusing primarily on the works of Gilbert and Sullivan, we have endeavored to bring their timeless satire and glorious music

to a wider audience and for a very reasonable price. We are a non-profit, charitable organization with membership open to all in the community who share an interest in vocal music and musical theatre.

All members of the cast are required to be members of North Toronto Players. The Annual fee is a donation of $100.00 which is tax deductible.

Auditioning for North Toronto Players

Auditions for principal roles will be held in October 2011. Candidates will audition before Michael Harms - Stage Director, John Ricciardelli - Music Director and members of the North Toronto Players audition panel

An audition time should be arranged with Emily Romano. If you are unable to attend your scheduled audition, kindly notify Emily as early as possible.

Please fill in the attached form and bring it with you to the audition with your headshot and resume. You may also send a copy of your resume in advance, via email.

If callbacks are necessary, you will be notified of the dates and available times by phone or email.

When you contact us about an audition we will direct you to the music appropriate to the part you are auditioning for, however, if you are unable to prepare the suggested piece, please bring music for your alternate piece appropriate to your voice type and experience.

All candidates will be asked to read for the Directors. Selected readings will be provided at the audition. These may contain modifications to the original text.

Performing with North Toronto Players

Rehearsals for our productions are as follows:

Chorus Music Rehearsals – Mondays from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm, September through October.

Staging and Choreography – starting November on Monday evenings. Principals will be required to attend some chorus rehearsals during blocking and choreography according to a schedule presented in mid-Oct.

Principals only – as arranged with the Stage Director at his downtown location.

Saturday rehearsals– starting in January. Principals will be called according to the schedule.
